We will now hear from Andrea Seatrans.

Andrea Seatrans

I'm Executive Director of the state of California Space Authority. Thanks for having us here and we look forward to working with you.

We're a collaborative organization. We have a statewide board of directors and attract industries and governments at all levels. Our mission is to retain what we have in California, to grow it, and to create new markets. We want to give voice to that capability. We have 25% of the global market and understand our sister states are competitive in some arenas, especially in space tourism and a space port. We feel we have strategic advantages in California. We have a lot in here.

Our legislator face is changing. Our message to our policy makers and public is that aerospace isn't changing but there are opportunities to enhance it. We want to act as a facilitator and help create like networks. We get our funding from state and federal grants, and do some fee for services. We do a lot of things. In the back, you'll find one of our recent newsletters. We also have a website. We also do space days in the state and in Washington, DC.

I wanted to share two important things with you. In 1998 and 2004 we implemented a plan to create a space experience and a 2007 plan to tell the story of what we have in California. The plan is important and if you're interested in giving us your input, we have innovative ways to work with people. We were successful and were able to respond to a Department of Labor request with a proposal. We were told we were one of three successful bidders. We worked on that diligently and received the call that we had received one of the grants awarded in the nation. We were told our proposal ranked number one. Now I'd like to introduce Judy Turner.

Many of you might be interested in talking with us about how you can participate. This project runs all throughout California. In 13 counties we have 50 partners. We're working on three main things: supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and the workforce of the 21st century. One of the colleges we're working with is Cal State Fullerton. All of these organizations are coming together to see how we can sustain our competitiveness in the world. Manufacturing and the supplier base is another thing we're looking for. The Bay Area Innovation and Science Consortium is holding an asset inventory and NASA Ames will be a part of that. The purpose of this is to see what we have out there and how it all fits together. We will be at the reception and I look forward to talking to you if you want to know more.

Thank you Andrea and Judy. We'll resume the session tomorrow at 8:00am. A continental breakfast will be available at 7:30am. If anyone is interested before heading to the reception, we will show the slide presentation on Space Island mentioned earlier.
