DAY 2 CLOSING

Michael Kaufman

I would like to have a conversation about what needs to be done to be successful by 11:00am tomorrow. What else needs to be accomplished? The purpose of this session was to explore partnerships and opportunities. What needs to be done?

Discussion

A small group could work on information exchange.

How can we take this information, consolidate it to something reasonable, and use it to where we can take this with us and feel like we have a starting point to do something?

How do we consolidate things into a unified plan?

What are the six specific outputs? We need to either sharpen those or establish a team that would make it happen.

We talked earlier about an industry advisory committee. Coming out of this workshop, we should recommend the establishment of a small committee to meet on a regular basis with a function to work seriously on getting some of this codified.

Since we used the RPC focuses as a lens, what's the role for the RPCs going forward?

At some point, I just want to see a plan. People seem to be struggling with identifying the pieces to put together a viable commercial deal. How are they put together, who needs to be talked to, etc? Is there any value in a Pathfinder type concept going out of here? What's the business case? Who do we have to talk to? What is the target market? How do we step through that process? Is it valuable to say we will do a Pathfinder project where we take things from the RPC expertise in this room to put it together? Is it valuable to do that?

Yes, that's valuable to do.

What else?

We have a lot of talented people here. Some of us have come with our own expertise and agendas. We had a lot of self discovery at the reception last night. What can we all bring to the table and what are we looking for?

So you want to create a marketplace here physically?

Yes.

It's important to go beyond that.

I would like to take advantage of the marketing and media people here to help us tell this story better. There is some neat and exciting stuff here, but we must be doing something wrong if we can't get more people excited about this. How can we do that better? We need help in our messaging and getting the word out. How can we do that better in both quantity and quality?

I'd like to see some tangible next steps we can pursue over the next six months. What if NASA wasn't in the equation at all? With a certain amount of safety involved, what does success look like without NASA involved?

We need to talk about how this information will be disseminated?

We need to clarify the action steps, but who are the appropriate audiences for those action steps?

Commitment is critical. Somebody has to commit to do something. We have to be willing to commit to something before we walk out of here tomorrow. Coming up with a plan is only the first part, we have to commit to carrying out the plan.

In an ideal world, I'd like us to sign up for the seven breakout groups you just identified. Tomorrow will have about three hours but there will be some "good" interruptions. I'd propose a hybrid model. Let's sign up and see who's interested in what, and give people the option of working more today before presenting tomorrow morning.

What's the product we want to end up with tomorrow?

We want to work the topics you identified. What if you made a presentation that summarized your work as the product?

Are there any questions about the groups you identified?

The information exchange is a marketplace, which is different than who we are talking to. The marketplace is about who is here and what they can provide.

Rather than short-change the marketplace process, we could send out an email to attendees to share information, and bring us together that way.

ACES can facilitate that and will take that on as an action step.

Okay, it's time to sign up for a topic you have passion for. You can work on it some today and then present tomorrow.
