Overview

On May 16-18, 2006, representatives from NASA, the Research Partnership Centers, the space industry, and the investment community gathered at the Ames Research Center at Moffet Field to explore the future of space commercialization. This forum was the next in a series of workshops focused on how to encourage the development of a space industry.

The focus of this workshop was how to leverage the technology portfolios and proven research capabilities of the RPC's. The workshop began with a series of presentations by Mark Nall and Fred Best on the history of the RPC's and a sampling of the technologies that the RPC's have developed. Participants then worked through a series of assignments in small teams to define the demand, supply and investment needs in several different focus areas and then identify and develop several investment opportunities in each area. In the final round of work, teams developed a Project Pathfinder plan, marketing ideas for the project, ideas for promoting the space commercialization opportunity and recommendations for an industry advisory group.

The sponsors would like to thank the participants for their focus and dedication during the workshop.

Real Time Record
This website is a record of the Commercial Space Forum: Highways for Space Exploration and Entrepreneurial On-ramps session held at NASA Ames Research Park, Moffett Field, CA on May 16-18, 2006 as it happened - captured in real time and presented here in this web site. This chronological documentation of the session includes text and images that were captured throughout the course of the event. The text is not a transcription of the event. Rather, it represents the documentor's synthesis of the team reports and group discussions.

This record is intended as a reminder to the participants of the conversations that took place during the summit, as a stimulus for further conversation and it serves as an artifact of the group's work.

For anyone who was not present at the event reading this, you may lose some of the energy and creativity the participants expressed and some of the ideas may not translate completely without that context. If you have any questions about the content or anything that is represented here please speak to someone that participated in the process or Michael Kaufman at InnovationLabs.
