Michael: We've taken your templates and posted them on the columns behind you. You each have four dots that you can "spend" on them to show where you think the most important work needs to be done. Take your dots and vote. We'll tally them up and that will guide our next round of work.

Now take a look and see which projects here got the most votes. Any comments?
- I like the process
- I was surprised that some of these got such high votes, such as symptom relief, because you cannot measure that across specialties.
- It is different how you measure pain for a child as opposed to an adult but I don’t think any of these have to be done the same across specialties. Each of them will have their own way to see it.
- I want to share another tagline someone from our group came up with: “How do you spell relief? A-B-N-S”
- When you were talking about the tools for different specialty certifications, there is one model that is adapted for different areas.
- For feasibility, I have done a survey of the research and there are no clean definitions of critical thinking.
- But we need to find a way to measure it. I know it’s easier said than done, but we have to do it. Same with competency. I know everyone says don’t go there but I think we have to.
MK: Is there value at having a group come up some definitions?
- Yes
Now we’re going to have you vote with your feet which means you can sign up for one of these groups that you identified as being important. We have a list on the board here with these 12 areas. Come up and sign up for your choice. Think of this in terms of creating a project plan that you can take back to your organization.

Closing of the Day
Michael:
Thanks to everyone for sticking with this. I want each group to report out their work at 8am tomorrow morning so if there is anything you want to do on your teams so you’re ready to go first thing in the morning please do that.
Closing comments
Q: Are you going to record what is written on the board?
A: We’ll print out your walls and you’ll report them out tomorrow morning
Q: Will the website show all our work or just the final project?
A: Yes, it is a chronological capture of all your work throughout the day.
Comment: Your process is very interesting and moving. I appreciate the way you use music to move us in the environment.
Q: What’s on the score for the morning? Where are we headed? What hat do I need to wear tomorrow?
A: The costume closet is on the way out and we’ll see how you feel in the morning. (laughter) We’re going to report out our work tomorrow and we’ll find out more from our sponsors tonight about our direction for tomorrow.
Comment: I think there are a couple of cool nuggets of work on those boards and I really hope we come out with a couple of cool research projects from this session, such as the database project. So good work to those of you who did this.
Q: What do you mean by database?
A: What I saw as a database is a way to compile the demographic information on certified nurses. There might be other answers to this question, so it is also looking at how to collect our data in a more centralized way.
Michael: What would you like to walk out with by 3pm tomorrow?
- Building on the database idea, what kind of data would people find helpful.
- It’s one thing to have the articles there but it would be nice to have the data teased out. More summaries. Sometimes it’s hard to dig it out.
- Knowing what the next step is would be good
- A draft of a research agenda
- Wanting to know how our boards can contribute
- Have a clear discussion about funding
- To revisit the four partnership models we came up with
- What role can ABNS play in the research agenda?
- Have a plan for funding with start dates and persons responsible
Okay, let’s see what we can do about that. Now go out and enjoy yourself tonight. We’ll see you in the morning.
