Activity
Jim Hallock
I’ve been involved with the summits since their inception. I want to welcome all the new folks and those of you who are returning. We never know what’s going to happen in these things. But when I walk in and see these displays of what we’ve already done, I’m sure that the current one won’t be as good, but I’m always surprised by how much more we come up with.
Each time these guys at InnovationLabs help us with our process and we continue to do things that are incredibly important. I’ll give you more sense of this tomorrow of what we’re doing. I’m in the enviable position of being about to retire so it is my pleasure to be here with you these days.
Please speak up and participate while you’re here. There is no question you cannot ask, no topic that you cannot explore. Thank you again for being here. You’ll hear more from me tomorrow. Now I’ll hand it over to Michael.

Thank you all for coming and we’re going to start out like normally and that is to put you to work. You’re going to pair up. Find someone who hasn’t been here before if you have been and vice versa. The idea is to also wander around the gallery and see what this group has done. And the next part is to ask yourselves, so what? Here’s the assignment, find your partners and start to wander. There is a bunch of post-it notes and pens up here, look at the walls, take notes and then you’ll build a product.
Assignment
Welcome!
The purpose of this orientation is to introduce you to the way we’ve been working in these Summits and to give you a brief experience of the process.
This activity has two parts.
Part I: Your first assignment is an individual assignment. Please find a blank white wall panel (a 3.5’ x 6.5’ white wall). Write your name on the wall. On your white wall respond to the following question:
What are the compelling reasons for promoting a common framework to determine, measure, and assure the public concerning physician competence over the entire career of the physician?
You have about 15 minutes for this part of the assignment.
Part II: Part two of this activity is in small groups of four. Please find three other people you do not know. Once you’ve created a foursome, each person will have 4 minutes to share their panel with the other three.
You have 16 minutes for this part of the assignment. Once all four of you have shared your individual work please gather back together in the large group area.

Michael
You’ve just gotten a taste of what we’re going to do for the next couple of days. Do you have any comments for tonight?
What are you going to do with our posters?
MK: They’ll be up on the gallery tomorrow.
It was very interesting to reflect upon what happened at the last summits and it is very apropos the phrase behind you: Why are we here?
Is there a timetable for this? I want to know how many years I need to show up. (laughter)
MK: As with all the other summits, this is the last one. The first one was the last one. The previous one was the last one. The group only comes together when the group decides it’s necessary and important.
I want to thank everyone for showing up. You take time from your busy schedules to do this and I appreciate it.
