We don’t have time for us to go back into small groups, but I would like to get some responses from you. We need to get a small group to work on the paragraphs to take back to your organizations.
We have three people of the eight from the steering committee and perhaps you could get together with some other
Are we going to have another summit? (most hands raised)
We don’t have the money to have another unless we raise it.
We have a proposal to get some funding.
MK: Can we get some people together to review the business proposal? (many hands)
Could we set a date for this and the steering committee sets that?
Yes, by May 1st. The Federation meets in May. But the document doesn’t require any particular organization’s support.
DECISION: The steering committee will decide the business plan, request for funds, the participant agreement, and a budget from the last summits will be available by mid-April.
Will this be combined with the request for funding? Yes.
Is this the draft or the final version by then? Final.
It sounds like we’re slicing the pie in a lot of different ways. The question is whether we have another summit without something new in terms of funding. We need to have more than what we’ve done and that implies staff as well.
As a related piece of work, what is the most valuable thing we can do before the next summit?
Lobbyists cost a lot of money. You want people who can do legwork. People who can bridge from one summit to the next.
If we can list the names and foundations of the steering committee it would be useful for the group to endorse their ability to get the work done. I would like to know if it is representative.

I don’t know who is the big funders in the past has been. It seems Federation and State Board heavy. I wonder why they have been the big contributors.
MK: Anything else?
I really appreciate being with all these people again.
I think we need to either get a commitment for people to participate. I’m busy too but I make the time to be here and I would really appreciate for others to do that. If this is not the time then let’s find a time when everybody can.
I strongly support that. I would like to start earlier and ending earlier. It would be easier for those of us with day jobs to end earlier.
As soon as you ask us for the dates give us the time.
Is it possible to do it in one day? No.
I would like to suggest that when we are here that we’re present. There is a tension between managing our own energy and being here and being somewhere else.
Maybe we could have breaks throughout our day.
As a new person, I want to thank Carol and Frances and the rest of the FSMB staff for making this possible.
And for InnovationLabs, let’s give them a round of applause.

The ACGME has used them and we had a major effort from our chairs some of which really are feral cats. They needed change in how they do their council and felt the way they were operating was a waste of their time. We got approval to have InnovationLabs come and offer a two-day session. We had a lot of staff support and with a big transition effort, we broke into bucket groups, section meetings, and at our last board meeting, they approved the entire transition plan for that council. We have to be worried that we get what we ask for. But this will affect all of graduate medical education and it would not have been possible without the support of InnovationLabs.
I would like to speak for me and the team, we appreciate being able to work with you and are honored to be able to help you with your process.

I would like to say that I appreciate the new quote. You have to play the ball where it lies. I know these days have felt difficult and frustrating, that’s part of the process and I feel like we’re at a fish or cut bait point. I hope that we do have another summit. Not only the work done here is important but I think it has spawned a sense of engagement that has gone far beyond the people in this room. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful incubator and I hope we can see our way through to the next stage.
